Fashion Rocks!

One of the main aspects of River Rocks Notts was our very own fashion show, which featured a total of seven labels:
  • Regenerate Clothing by May Cortazzi
  • Bantum Clothing by Simeon Hartwig
  • Lorna Tallowin
  • Amy Stephenson
  • Nottingham Trent University - Fashion Design students' work
  • COW vintage
  • River Island

Our aim was to demonstrate the exciting creative flair that Nottingham consumes and this notion was to be projected in each element of the event, from models, to music, fashion and atmosphere.

The images below illustrate how we combined the creme-de-la-creme of Nottingham's fashion scene with the consistent diversity of River Island as a brand.

River Island Rocks!!

As part of our event, River Rocks Notts, we assembled this River Island photo board. This helped to secure an integral link with our brand, River Island. Guests were able to have their photos taken by tilllate.com, which were then uploaded online the following day. Here are just a few of the photos taken in front of the board on Tuesday night!

Live Art Rocks!!

Live art took place on the night by local creatives Phill Blake, Alex Fowkes and James Huyton. The guys demonstrated their illustrative talent and created 3 amazing pieces of artwork. We are really grateful to the guys for coming down for the evening - particularly Jimmy whose Birthday it was!

River Rocked Notts!!!

So the event took place on the 27th of April at Escucha and was a huge success. So much so that we have only just been able to find the words to describe what a good night it was. Feedback so far has been really positive and it seems that all our hard work paid off!

Now to tell you all about how the night ran as a whole. Guests were lead into the venue by a green turf carpet which was a playful twist on the more traditional red carpet and this fitted in with some of our designers eco-friendly garments (Amy Stevenson and May Cortazzi for Regenerate Clothing).

Once inside the venue, guests were given a goodie bag, a lanyard and a cupcake! The goodie bags included Maoam sweets (kindly donated by the one and only Tom Moxham), a free make-over at Space NK, free treatments at the Beauty Temple and a slinky!

Goody bags are go!!!

We have spent the last 3 days buried away in our flat with a set of stamps, inks and paper bags, trying to create the perfect goody bags for you all to recieve at our fabulous event!! It has been very teadious and extremely funny everytime Harriet has started a new goody bag by spelling it wrong or starting with the wrong letter. You would think she would learn, so we now have a pile dodgy spelt goody bags!! hehe!! Were keeping our fingers crossed and hoping we get them done today.

Beer Mat distribution

Well today has been a very busy for us girls, we have been distributing our beer mat's across the bars, pubs and student hang outs of Nottingham. Escusha, Horn in the Hand, the Orange Tree and across uni are a few of the places you will find them. Although you won't find them in Bonington cafe as they were very un-helpful and wouldn't help us!! We are also distributing our posters around campus today so keep your eyes peeled for them.

More Fashion Show Research (Fairytales)

As we are all fully aware, end of year fashion shows are a favourite when it comes to dissertations subjects. This proved no exception for two of our course mates and friends, Sarah Bannerman and Sedge Beswick. The theme behind the show was 'fairytales and wonderlands' inspired by the convenient release of Tim Burton's Alice. The girls anticipated an unavoidable trend which has had a catastrophic impact on the world of fashion. The goodie bags were a real treat, and as is evident from the photographic evidence, the night was a real success and Sarah and Sedge did a splendid job. It was nice to see all their hard work pay off; and it will be our turn in less that ONE MONTH!

Fashion Show Research

With end of year degree shows looming, third year fashion design students put on a fundraiser at Coco Lounge in Hockley. When asked to model, the three of us took this as an opportunity to experience the manic and mayhem that goes on backstage in an effort to use this experience as research. There would be very little truth in saying that the fashion show/models were well organised or well executed. However, the show was well received and the evening was great fun for all those involved.

Update

Everything is coming together, albeit slowly but surely. Make up artists, hair, bands and djs are confirmed; models are a continuous work in progress. The press releases are drafted and we are finally getting a visual identity together. The font used for River Rocks Notts on both the beer mats and t-shirts is almost stamp like, a trend which we picked up with inspiration from LOVE magazine. Having ordered stamps to give it a unique edge, it turns out that we missed the 'mini' in the product description but tried to have some fun with them anyway. More (and bigger) stamps have been ordered so hopefully our next attempt will prove more successful!

VIP only...

Towards the back of Escucha we are going to have a VIP area - exclusively for our band, DJ's, live artists and guests from River Island. In addition to this, we will also be inviting May Cortazzi who is featuring some of her clothing from Regenerate in our catwalk.

The images below demonstrate the area we have decided would be most suitable.

We will also be offering VIPs free drinks on the night to thank collaborators for their help. We have decided that the best way to do this would be to have bottles of spirits and mixers in ice buckets on the tables.
We are off to scout models today - wish us luck! Updates to come...

Escucha

Hi Guys,

Hope you are all enjoying the first of our many viral marketing videos!

Having spent the morning sat in front of a computer editing, we decided to take a stroll down to Escucha in the afternoon. As the venue for River Rocks Notts, we felt it time to consider where things might go on the night of the 27th of April and also to discuss arrangements with the manager.

The images below show the space available to us on the night. For those of you who didn't know, there is also a bar downstairs called Minus One which we have also hired for the evening. This is shown in images 2 & 3.

Our main concern was to agree on the best positioning of the catwalk. Given the layout in Escucha we have decided that the catwalk will take a rectangular format. Placing a singular row of chairs around the edge of the room will map out a guideline which our models can follow.
